Google Home: Google Home Pictures, News Articles, Videos

Google Home is a brand of smart speakers developed by Google. The first device was announced in May 2016 and released in the United States in November 2016, with subsequent releases globally throughout 2017.

Google Home speakers enable users to speak voice commands to interact with services through Google's intelligent personal assistant called Google Assistant. A large number of services are integrated, allowing users to listen to music, control playback of videos or photos, or receive news updates entirely by voice. Google Home devices also have integrated support for home automation, letting users control smart home appliances with their voice. Multiple Google Home devices can be placed in different rooms in a home for synchronized playback of music. An update in April 2017 brought multi-user support, allowing the device to distinguish between up to six people by voice. In May 2017, Google announced multiple updates to Google Home's functionality, including free hands-free phone calling in the United States and Canada; proactive updates ahead of scheduled events; visual responses on mobile devices or Chromecast-enabled televisions; Bluetooth audio streaming; and the ability to add reminders and calendar appointments.

The original product has a cylindrical shape with colored status LEDs on the top for a visual representation of its status, and the cover over the base is modular, with different color options offered through Google Store intended for the device to blend into the environment. In October 2017, Google announced two additions to the product lineup, the Google Home Mini and the Google Home Max.

Google Home Mini

Google unveiled Google Home Mini during a hardware-focused event onOctober 4, 2017, which was released on October 19, 2017.
It is a variant of Google Home with the same overall functionality but
in a smaller pebble-like form factor around 4 inches (10 cm) in diameter,
with a fabric top that its white-colored status lights shine.

Is Google assistant same as Google Home?

Google Home is quite different as compared to Google assistant.
Some of the differences at least make a little sense. For example, Google Home can’t give you directions because it stays inside your house. It also can’t create reminders or calendar events, but presumably, that’s because you don’t want to give the whole house the ability to edit your schedule. Then again, why would you give the whole house the ability to read your schedule if that’s the case? Other feature gaps stem from technical limitations. Home can’t make phone calls because it’s not a phone, for example.

What does a Google Home Mini do?

The Home mini basically does everything the full-sized Google home does,
just in a smaller package with a much smaller speaker. It'll answer
questions, set timers, and alarms play music, read the news or
information from the web, and web and control a relatively large
collection of smart home devices such as Hue lights.

Can you make calls with Google home?

Google home lets you call anyone in the contacts; it doesn't matter if
they also own a google home speaker or not. You're calling their actual
phone. There's no way to call someone else's google home like you can
make Echo to Echo with Alexa. Google only supports outgoing calls.

What's new for Google Home?

At the latest Google IO in May 2018 a new version of Google Home wasn't revealed. But that doesn't mean there weren't lots of exciting news and updates about Google Assistant. Google announced that Assistant has now made its way to more than 500 million devices. That means not only does it come built-in to Google Home, it works on over 5,000 different devices - from cars to phones. Two of the biggest features coming to Assistant that'll affect Google Home is called Multiple Actions and Continued Conversation. According to Google, one of the most requested features for those using Google Assistant is the ability to ask it lots of things at once without having to keep repeating "Hey Google." That's what Continued Conversation is all about, the Assistant will be able to understand when you're talking to it rather than someone else. This new feature is related to Multiple Actions, which is when in a conversation you might make multiple requests. It now doesn't need them one-by-one, it can see to each and every one of the - at least in theory.

There's also a new extension of Google's Family Link called "Pretty Please", which is designed to ensure your kids treat the voice assistant with respect. It means the Assistant will understand and even encourage polite conversations. And finally, Google will be adding six new voices to Assistant in order to make it feel more personal and natural. Of course, this adds to all of the other amazing things Google Home and its Assistant can already do. Back at Google IO 2017, Google announced four major changes to the smart speaker: proactive assistance, hands-free calling, Bluetooth and visual responses. Hands-free calling and Bluetooth allows you to import contacts from your phone and then when you want to make a phone call, all you’ll need to do is ask. Home also uses Bluetooth to sync up to other devices – a feature the Home’s competitor, Amazon Echo, has had since it launched and had so far been strangely absent on Google’s smart speaker. At IO 2017, Google also announced that the Home will support the free version of Spotify, SoundCloud, and Deezer in addition to the music streaming services it already supported later this summer. Design Now, because “air freshener” can be a varied description depending on where you are in the world, a more apt description of its shape might be a small vase – it has a wide bottom and a tapered top. Each Google Home comes with a standard, gray fabric base with a rubber bottom that can be swapped out for a different material or color for around $20. So far, Google offers two types of bases to match your home decor: metallic and fabric, each with different colors and finishes. Metallic bases are made out of either painted steel or polycarbonate and come in copper, snow or carbon colors. On the fabric side, the three colors are mango, marine, and violet, in addition to the standard white mesh listed above.
